View from an Island, 6" x 6" oil on panel
This piece for me encapsulates a tiny slice of Helliwell looking out to Vancouver Island.

Helliwell Sky
"Helliwell Sky", 6" x 12", 1.5 inch profile, oil on panel.
This viewpoint from Helliwell looking out to Lasquiti is a very familiar and loved place. I find it interesting having walk this walk so often to notice the optical illusion that some things, ie distant islands, seem closer or farther depending on the light, weather who knows what? It is one of the advantages of painting the same thing over and over..noticing subleties.

One Tulip
One Tulip, 16" x 16" oil on canvas
I found it interesting in this piece to use the single, seemingly, insignificant tulip in the foreground to create a entry into the rest of the painting.

Helliwell Sunshine
Helliwell Sunshine, 6" x 12, oil on panel
Summer on Hornby..yellow bleached grasses against the blue sea, love that colour combo. It evokes a memory of lazy late hot summer days.

Sky 2
Sky 2, 6" x 6" oil on panel
Another little sky piece. I like working in twos. There are so many variations i could paint a million sky paintings..well okay maybe not. I am so enjoying painting smallish. Though i see now the challenge is how to present them ..

Sky
Sky, 6" x 6" oil on canvas
I am ever interested in sea and sky. So i go back and forth on this theme. Watching the interactions..and what affects what..Its kind of funny to paint such a huge subject matter on such a tiny format.

Two Daisy's
Two Daisy's, 6" x 6" oil on panel
A return to a familiar theme of flowers gardens against the sky. My favorite gardens are wild and kind of messy and energetic. I am working on too many paintings at the moment for my tiny studio space! which will only intensify as the season moves along..hmm sort of like a garden.
