Island Tree, and "Photoworthy"

I noticed the white appearing trunk and pretty light coloured grasses while driving across Denman Island in the usual mad dash to the ferry.  I did quickly pull over to snap the photo and was glad I did.  Sometimes one drives by a beautiful place so often they "no" longer see it as photo worthy..but really its all about noticing the light play on its surroundings.

Meanwhile today we woke up to frost!  And its so pretty as there are still orange and red leaves on the trees.

I have been experimenting with framing for these small panels.  In the above photo Art Media has a selection of quality premade frames cut from their custom work.  They are all different and kind of fun!.  I was initially thinking framing had to be all the same, but find that not every paintings suits, and i like better choosing something individually.  The white and black frames are nice because the panel has some space around it. 

Sandbars and Tidal Pools

This is a piece i started last year in acrylic and just reworked a little with some oil..Its a bit more abstracted than my usual paintings.   I am enamoured with oil at the moment, It just took a few swipes of the brush to bring this painting to where i wanted it, after working it so hard in acrylic  ..though wish i wasnt so affected by thinners and toxic mediums..ugh!

This painting came off very quickly, surprisingly so!  That always makes me happy, I have 4 or 5 partially done paintings waiting in my studio for me to finish, all of which are taking much more time.  They are all much more minimal in composition which is more challenging to pull off.  I had set myself the challenge of keeping my subject matter very narrow and focused, (of sanddunes)  but somehow found myself painting a pond!

One Tulip

I found it interesting in this piece to use the single, seemingly, insignificant tulip in the foreground to create a entry into the rest of the painting.
