Tribune Bay Blue

 As I sit by the toasty fire looking at this scene remembering the blissful day in late august when the photo reference for this painting was taken, riding our bikes to the meadow behind Tribune to pick blackberries and then a sunbathe on the beach!  Pretty blissful.  Summer so swift though mellow autum has its beauty and charm.  
I am experimenting with new blog layout..any comments would be appreciated!

Blue Water 1, 2 and 3

I like these three as a set..though its is not officially a triptych.  I have been asked by studio visitors why paint a diptych or a triptych?  I am not exactly sure accept that my subject matter is so vast..ocean and sky etc, the container ie: whatever the canvas size is, or whatever composition i choose is kind of arbitary..it could be added to continually, and the variations are endless..there you go off on an esoteric tangent.  !  And happy March 1st everyone!  I think March 1st should be the new year rather than Jan 1st.

40 x 40, oil on canvas,  I am rather pleased with this painting.  It is kind of stylized, and painterly at the same time.  I have not really painted rock/bluffs before, so getting the colour right was a challenge.  Its really the same mix more or less i use for sand, grey, portrait pink, teeny bit of umber, and yellow.   I have a fond memory of a day spent in this place a few years ago, on San Juan Island, the light was so beautiful and hazy.  I remember it from 3 years ago. ( too bad my memory doesnt include more practical things) !

Another little sky piece.  I like working in twos.  There are so many variations i could paint a million sky paintings..well okay maybe not.  I am so enjoying painting smallish.  Though i see now the challenge is how to present them ..
