Snow on the back porch, Georgia O'Keefe arrangement
I will be away for my show in Victoria for a week or so, paintings all framed, mostly boxed up, and i keep wandering in to my studio looking at the canvas's partially completed and left behind, awaiting my return. My head is full of painting ideas for the upcoming spring/summer. But for now a rest from painting is needed.
Waldo Lake Sunset, 5" x 7", oil on panel, $125.00 + 10.00 s/h The sunsets lately have been amazing! Last night driving back to Portland from Olympia in the evening the light and reflections on the waterways were really beautiful, but being stuck on the freeway without no where to pull off i couldnt stop anywhere to take photos. (there must be some backroads) I am back in to the painting routine of working on a mini for an hour in the morning (i love doing them, its like really fun painting) and do what i consider real "work" in the afternoon..ie: commissions and larger paintings.
Raspberry Sunset, 5" x 7", oil on panel This little painting is the first from photos taken of our recent camping trip to the Oregon Outback. Our last night camping was on a lake with the most amazing sunsets. Its a delight to paint in such deep rich reds and oranges, mostly my paintings have lots of blue sea and sky, etc. I was particularly interested in the little "slice" of yellow light between the land and its reflection. If you would like to purchase this mini painting please contact me $125.00 + $10.00 s/h
Looking for Answers, 36" x 48" acrylic on canvas
This piece i did in 2007 ......interesting to look back, 'specially while show opening tommorrow. Just back from a lovely beach walk, tide very high and the scent of the next season
Garden Pond, 48" x 60", acrylic on canvas
This is an older piece, and a biggy!..i dont have the room to paint such large work at the moment but looking at it makes me want to! I love painting large, until it comes to hauling it around. I shall put it in my show at the Hall in the round room.
Bluffs, Crimson, 30" x 40", acrylic and oil on canvas
Here is a piece that i have reworked in oil..I have been wondering if i should cheer up the sky but i think the low sliver of light creates some tension. I like a little tension in a sky.
Tidal Merge 2, 12" x 12" oil on canvas, SOLD
This is an older piece..i just pulled out a few weeks ago to get feedback in my studio,(Open studio's are great for that) I hung 3 of these 12 x 12's in a row stack on top of each other on an easel..Been getting lots attention..Its very textural and rough, most of my paintings are much more refined..i go back and forth with what i prefer.
Sandbars and Tidal Pools, 30" x 30", oil on canvas
This is a piece i started last year in acrylic and just reworked a little with some oil..Its a bit more abstracted than my usual paintings. I am enamoured with oil at the moment, It just took a few swipes of the brush to bring this painting to where i wanted it, after working it so hard in acrylic ..though wish i wasnt so affected by thinners and toxic mediums..ugh!
A busy day in the studio today. I had just finished this piece and put it out on a easel to photograph when a wonderful couple from Vancouver came to look at paintings. They were interested in a few including this one and I had not even titled it. So I asked for suggestions..Helliwell Gold it is!..
Poppies and Blue, 24" x 36", oil on canvas, sold
I have painted this view many times, it was inspired by my mother who planted poppies down by the sea..this was our view (well sort of, I take some license!) . And so i keep returning to it.
Summer Blue, 36" x 24", oil on canvas
Surrounded by summer blues of the sea and sky on this tiny island..other than a few hot moments, painting in my outfitters tent is fabulous..
Out on the Tide, 36" x 36", oil on canvas
I love the abstraction of sand and tidal pools..I thought of adding a foreground, but changed my mind, I think if suggests a feeling of being there on the sand rather than looking out at a "scene"
Wondering and Wondering, 30" x 30", acrylic on canvas
I have been looking back at some work from a few years ago, a garden, floral series..(as i do not have any new work to post at the moment)..though in process!. I'd like to do some more of these, but never enough time...! This is a kind of classic floral...a bit old fashioned.
Dunes 5, 6" x 6" oil on panel
I like the strong shadows out there on those sand dunes. and the simplicity of shape and colour. The sand really has so many colours within it..What colour IS sand? Depends of course on the light. The shocking thing is that motorized noisy vehicles are allowed to race all over it..destroying the delicate eco system. Ah well humans!
Two Roses on Green, 6" x 6" oil on panel
Loved this chartreuse green fabric, and the green blue of the shadow. Today i did three little paintings, I think I am working up to some bigger work, just having to be careful with my shoulder.
